The "Control" C is about being flexible with needs. We know employees value control over the flow and pace of their work so the question is, what can we do to create opportunities for control? Well, do you consult with your teams to discuss their needs openly and honestly? Could you be accommodating an employee’s particular situation (health/family/finances) in such a way as to provide them more control? Do you involve your employees in decision making that affects them directly? Do they have a say in the goals that are selected for them? Can they voice their ideas, concerns, and frustrations without fear or ridicule? Do your employees feel “in on things” and a part of the process or are they excluded? Addressing these points allows the team to know where they can gain control and where they can’t. It builds trust and ownership in driving results and in strengthening engagement.
